Movie marketing: Film industry

1) I have chosen the film 'Billy Elliot' because there was an adaption of this movie made in 2005 with one of the musical producers as Elton John who is a very famous singer. this fascinates me.

2) This movie was produced by StudioCanal, Working Title Films, BBC Films, Arts Council of England, Tiger Aspect Productions and WT2 Productions

3)The distributor for the theatrical release of the film in the UK is BBC Three.

4) The genre of this film is drama music and romance.

5) It fits these genres as it as about a male child wanting to do ballet in and all girls class which is rather dramatic as there are many problems, not only did this happen his closet-gay friend has a crush on the ballet teacher which is where romance fits in. Because the movie is about dancing it has a musical element.

6) The main actor Jamie Bell is well known for movies such as 'The adventures of Tin Tin', 'King Kong' and 'Fantastic Four'.

7) The UK release date was 29 September 2000.

10) It got amazing reviews one person said " Filled with amazing characters, a great plot, and circumstances that seem too real, the wonderfully underplayed value of it takes precedence over anything set against it."

11) "Jamie Bell plays the lead role, in an astonishing performance. Amazing dance routines done in perfect sync, I can just imagine the time he had memorizing all the steps"

"This is a move that truly should be shown to middle schoolers all over the country, showing that you should believe in yourself and no one else."

12) The original budget for this film was $5,000,000.

13) In opening weekend the film made $215,681.

14) The film made  $109,280,263 in total.

15)This ,movie was definitely successful.

Audience power essay - feedback and learner response

1)
WWW: This is seriously impressive – pushing 950 words, a well-developed argument showing plenty of originality and opinion plus a good selection of examples. It’s particularly impressive that you’re arguing that audiences have not been empowered as much as many people believe – and that the power still lies with the major media companies.

EBI: It’s definitely worth looking at how you’re structuring essays and paragraphs. You start with a very firm view regarding audiences NOT having much more power… but then most of the following paragraphs have topic sentences that contradict this. It’s completely acceptable to have changed your viewpoint by the end of an essay (arguably it’s a great sign of the academic journey of the essay!) but you don’t want to confuse your reader along the way.

Alongside this, I think you’ve covered the media debates very impressively but you don’t always stay focused on the question which is crucial when writing an essay. The question is regarding audience power but if you re-read your paragraphs you don’t always bring things back to power. One trick is to try and use the key words from the question (audience, power, internet) at the beginning and end of every paragraph.

LR: See tasks on blog.

2)  947 words

3) I believe that my 2nd to last paragraph is my best 1 as it is the only one i do not believe i strayed from the topic

4) my weakest paragraph is my 2nd paragraph as it is entirely not about the question

5) The Internet has changed the music industry a lot and the consumer has benefited from this. Some advantages of the internet for the consumer are: You Tube where you can listen to and watch music videos, streaming which can be done on various websites and apps, bands/artist can now be discovered online and successful artists are chosen by audiences so anyone can become famous, it is now cheaper and much more accessible. This allows the audience to control what other consumers watch/ listen to and persuade the way the internet changes. Apps like Sound Cloud and Spotify are new ways that are free for users to listen to their favourite artists and idols through. This is also a way for 'Bedroom Bands' to be seen by record labels and get their music out into the world as you can post your own music as well. Another way for artists to be discovered is on You Tube where you can post covers of your favourite music but also create your own music. This helps the consumer to change the music industry even more in a way that they can be an influence.

Reception Theory

1)The preferred reading is what the producer is trying to make the audience see.

2)The oppositional reading is what the audience may see that goes against the preferred reading.

3)The producer tries to perceive teenagers as aggressive and reckless in the Harry Brown movie.

4)Young people might reject this because it is only showing the negative things that a small amount of teens are like.

5)The preferred reading for the MacDonald advert is that this burger is filled with organic delicious ingredients and that is very healthy. However, the oppositional reading is that this burger is very unhealthy and disgusting as it is not the way that it is described and is actually much smaller. The negotiated reading is that although that burger is unhealthy and not the way it is described, it's still a guilty pleasure and people will still eat it no matter how bad it is for you. MacDonald's wish for people to see this burger as a healthier meal but if you look deeper you find out that they may be eating anything as their 'special sauce' ingredients are still very much a secret. Some may argue that this burger is healthy still.

6)This is a Lucozade advertisement. The preferred reading for this is that Lucozade is full of nutrients and perfect for a workout or to get your stamina up. However the oppositional reading is that there is enough sugar in this drink to last you a week according to the amount of sugar cubes each person should have each day. The negotiated reading of this is that even though there is way too much sugar in it, this drink is perfectly suitable for the gym and is a great accessory for a workout. some believe that this drink is the perfect thing to keep you energy up for a run.
